The Story Behind Ramakkalmedu

This hill got its name Ramakkalmedu from Ramayana (Relates the story of the life of Rama). Ravana, who was the king of Lanka kidnap Sita- the wife of Rama. Rama kept his feet at the tip of this place to search Ravana and hence got the name Ramakkalmedu means “Land of Rama’s Stone.” According to the local legend, Lord Rama stood on this hill.

The Big Statue of Kuravan and Kurathi

One of the main sights in Ramakkalmedu is the huge statue of Kuravan and Kurathi, two characters from local tribal stories. The statue is 40 feet tall and stands proudly on the hill. It represents the traditional tribal life and offers a great spot for photos.
